Created in 1951 to meet the religious needs of some 750 families, mostly Jewish, who set up new homes in our area (once devoted to potato farming), the JCC-WH enrolled some 650 families as members and set up a full program of Conservative Religious Services, including a Religious School, and at once became a focal point for religious and community activities.
Housed at first in a storefront donated for our use by our home builder, our facility housed religious services, our school and all community social activities. As we outgrew our location, we first moved into a house and used a large tent to have High Holiday Religious services for 1000 people. In 1954, we built the first part of our present synagogue structure, to which we added as needs grew, until it became our present synagogue.
We are proud to have been an integral factor in the creation and development of our Jewish Community, and remain ready to serve the needs of all who seek religious assistance and community help!
